Nine Frame Analysis

This is a nine frame analysis of the music video for "Kickstarts", by example from the album "Won't Go Quietly" which reached 3rd in the UK charts. The first shot of the nine frame is from 0:00 - 0:14 seconds into the video, it shows a number of different people shoes tapping their toes to the beat of the song. There are no lyrics to this section of the song. The next shot is from 0:15 - 0:26. This shows the singer and his girlfriend happy on the sofa, the lyrics at this point of the song are: "You want me to come over I got an excuse, Might be holding your hand but i’m holding it loose, go to talk then we choke its like our necks in a noose, Avoid the obvious we should be facing the truth" This has been edited to create a split screen of the singer and him and his girlfriend, he is showing her affection on one side of the screen, and singing at the camera on the other side the shot is a medium close up. The third shot is from 0:48 - 1:02, this small sequence shows a larger number of people dancing in a doorway, the editing here is similar to the the last shot, however there are now three horizontal sections on screen one showing peoples faces, the second their bodies and the last shows their legs. All three sections keep on changing to mix and match the different peoples body parts. This part of the song is largely instrumental however example does say "starts again" three times throughout this period. The fourth shot in the nine frame is from 1:21 - 1:30, this shot shows example sitting in the garden looking at his girlfriend. The fifth of the shots shows the artist now sat at the table with this girl and looks like they have recently made up and are now getting on very well, this is followed by the sixth shot which firstly shows examples and his girlfriends hands touching then quick chops to other hands (the hands of the different people we have seen throughout). From here the video just gets really fun and this indicates that in fact the love has kickstarted again. The seventh shot just shows the female in three different actions, one playing with bubbles, one laughing and one thinking. This part of the music video like all of the others using different sections this has been edited into a split-screen of the different actions. The second last shot again uses the split-screen editing technique  and uses a range of different things you'd find in the household to replace parts of the body, such as a record for the head and two dumplings on the end of a fork for the legs, this shows the playful and joyful side of this music video. The final shot shows the couple in a tent in their frontroom, showing the youthful side of these people, again the split screen editing technique is used and the camera is a medium shot, this just shows that there is definitely love between the couple and we see example with a football shirt on that says example on the back of it.
